This database is derived from the 2020 version of the Standard Occupational Classification (SOC 2020). It is based on the original dataset from the ONS with a couple of additions:

• readableOccupation: a human-readable version of the occupation with the comma-separated indexing word and qualifying terms reversed, and additional information/industry included in brackets.
  • Note: some occupations are represented in the original SOC 2020 coding index as separate words where they are more commonly represented as a single word; e.g. groundskeeper is represented as Keeper, grounds, and Warehouse keeper as Keeper, house, ware. Some of these have been corrected to the more common spacing in this field but, due to the size of the dataset, many such inconsistencies remain.
• searchableOccupation: all words from the readableOccupation with capitalisation, punctuation and accents removed.
